Halkidiki
The absolute treasure of Halkidiki is its coastline, stretching over 500 kilometers with amazingly beautiful and clean beaches. The water area of the peninsula, washed by the Aegean Sea, is perfectly clean. Each year, the beaches of Halkidiki are awarded the blue flag by the FEE. The climate in the peninsula is mild resulting in a comfortable summer, not too hot. The natural environment of the whole region is rich of forests, orchards and olive groves. The peninsula is traditionally compared to the trident of Poseidon, and geographically it is divided into the mainland and three small peninsulas stretching far out to sea - Kassandra, Sithonia and Athos. The God “seized” the last one for year-round use, whereas the other two are enjoyed by the tourists, who visit basically in the summer, for "divine" beach holidays or a honeymoon. The marriages concluded in the resorts of the peninsula can be officially registered at the municipality and sanctified in the church.
